Chicago Wordress community gathers

wordcamp chicago logoI spent the weekend in Chicago at the 2016 WordPress Wordcamp. Learned so much from so many smart people!

For those of you who are not familiar with Wordperss Wordcamp, it is a conference for WordPress users, developers, and designers. It is organized by the local WordPress community and it covers everything WordPress.

Open and inviting, Wordcamp attracts everyone from newbie to hardcore developer. One of the great things about the WordPress community is the willingness to share information and experiences. Everyone feels welcome at Wordcamp.

Learning a lot

This year I sat in on some very relevant and interesting sessions: WooCommerce Basics, Understanding Google Analytics, SEO Audit Techniques, Blogging for Business and Project Management.

Highlights

  • The WooCommerce session again reinforced the power of this FREE e-commerce plugin. Users do need to spend time learning this robust plugin, but the base plugin and the available add-ons make it one of the best systems out there.
  • Want to write blogs that will bring visitors to your site? There are 2 things you can do to help accomplish this: write naturally and have attention grabbing subject lines. More about this in future emails.
  • Google Analytics has so much data that WordPress users often shy away from it. But there are a few data points that are worthwhile reviewing: Sessions, Users, Pageviews, Pages/Session, Bounce Rate. More about this too in future emails.

Also met new and old friends at WordPress. Always fun to sit and talk and share WordPress.

I am already looking forward to Chicago Wordcamp 2017!
