Metropolitan Museum opens collections as public domain

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has placed over 400,000 into the public domain and now these images of artwork can be downloaded free from their site. 

The images can be uses for non-commercial use without permission from the museum. This program was developed by the Museum as a resource for students, educators, academic publishers, and non-commercial documentary filmmakers.

NOTE: Not all works are available, i.e. copyright, privacy issues.
